naya zindagi naya jeevan
Sep. 11th, 2009 07:11 pmI'm gonna jump on this 'week of recs' meme 'cos I'm feeling sort of blue, those post-vacation blues, you know. I can do with focusing on excellent things.
day 01 | a song
day 02 | a picture
day 03 | a book/ebook/fanfic
day 04 | a site
day 05 | a youtube clip
day 06 | a quote
day 07 | whatever tickles your fancy
I love Asian Dub Foundation. Their beats are super ill and the music is catchy, and sometimes I wonder what the hell I was doing in high school listening to sad guys on acoustic guitar when I could've been listening to empowering dance-rock/reggae. These guys are legit. Steve Chandra the guitarist hosts Music of Resistance on Al-Jazeera, because of course he would.
The first Asian Dub Foundation song I ever heard was New Way, New Life. When it gets to part where he says "Running through the playground, we could never have known that in the future our role models would be home-grown," my heart just swells and swells because I want it so bad to be true. This was exactly what RaceFail hit on again and again. Where are my homegrown heroes?
Have a second song just for the hell of it 'cos I love the hell out of it too: Culture Move

ADF r in ur racefail, pwning ur invisible pants
