Oren Lavie, the guy who sang the memory tree song on the 'Prince Caspian' soundtrack, has a song called "A Dream Within A Dream". Coincidence?! Did he write that song for the Narnia soundtrack but then it got rejected because it was too dark? Like Imogen Heap, apparently? The lyrics are pretty apt. "Caught within a dream within a dream/A man within a man."

In other Narnia-related news, the fic I wrote for Narnia Exchange is up. This year I ended up writing for

zempasuchil, which I was initially D: at because it can be more difficult writing something for someone you know than someone you don't. But I guess it turned out okay, so hooray! Last year I wrote for someone who didn't even holla back when the fic was posted, which was very sadface. Oh well, no sadfacing now though.

A lot of them I can't use because the contexts are really specific and vaguely cracked out, but I'm a packrat. If I get rid of a bunch of stuff, it's usually by accident.

This started out as commentfic with Z, cracking out about Peter/rock symbolism in PC, and then somehow became the only fic I've written to require a bibliography. For about a month or so, we weirdly had to read the same books for homework and - in addition to Narrrrrnia - that was how we became friends. So, this fic kind of grew out of that, sort of. This fic is preceded, on my end, by this post and my paper applying Durkheimian and Weberian concepts to the Chronicles of Narnia.

No, please, tell me how to be a bigger geek, I wanna know.

With the kind of classes I have this semester though, it's more difficult to apply homework to fandom. If any of you ever figure out how to use binomial distribution and multivariate regression as metaphors for the human heart, you let me know, mmkay?

I've always wanted to do a fic commentary, and and sometimes you hear the silence speak is kind of perfect for it because the length and subject matter lets me talk about a lot of things e.g. stray plot bunnies, sekrit authorial confessions, a reinterpretation of the role of Judas, the names of winds and sandstorms, book recommendations, etc.

The fic is technically gen, but the commentary is kind of not. It's posted in two parts due to space constraints, because sometimes I just don't shut up.

I started this fic some time ago partly out of a fit of "OMG NARNIA DESTROYS MY SOUL WITH ITS DESPAAAAIR D-: i must write something happy before i STAB SOMEONE". So. This is not the Aslan's Country of Where No Carnation Fades or Hereafter.

The title is from Sufjan Stevens's song of the same name, which I can't not think of as a "Susan returns to Aslan's Country" song. Hear/download it here [lyrics]. There's a part of me that wants Susan to just move on and forget this whole stupid Aslan business, but, there's also a part of me that wants Pevensie reunion cuddles at the end of all things. Forsooth these two fates of Susan tear me asunder.

I have been writing this SINCE THE SUMMER, and it has been informed by a variety of things along the way, including but not limited to 1001 Arabian Nights, Philip Pullman, the big bang, the Eucharist, my sociology class, and my love-hate relationship with economics.
