You thought I was done with you, Narnia, but you should know that I am never done with you.

This started out as commentfic with Z, cracking out about Peter/rock symbolism in PC, and then somehow became the only fic I've written to require a bibliography. For about a month or so, we weirdly had to read the same books for homework and - in addition to Narrrrrnia - that was how we became friends. So, this fic kind of grew out of that, sort of. This fic is preceded, on my end, by this post and my paper applying Durkheimian and Weberian concepts to the Chronicles of Narnia.

No, please, tell me how to be a bigger geek, I wanna know.

With the kind of classes I have this semester though, it's more difficult to apply homework to fandom. If any of you ever figure out how to use binomial distribution and multivariate regression as metaphors for the human heart, you let me know, mmkay?

Title: Sea Change
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] lassiterfics and [livejournal.com profile] zempasuchil, Esq.
Fandom: Narnia
Rating: G
Summary: Sea change: n. A gradual transformation in which the form is retained but the substance is replaced. "Maybe when the world changes, your footholds in it do too. Maybe he's back to stumbling in a land that doesn't fit him." Peter, Susan, and Edmund from the end of the Golden Age to England, and back, and back again.
A/N: [livejournal.com profile] templemarker has remixed this fic for [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09, and it's awesome: into something rich and strange (the tempus aeternum backbeat)

don't forget don't forget don't forget until it stops being words and is just a tight and urgent feeling in a chamber of his heart )

You know what Merlin fandom needs and I don't need AT ALL but really want? Merlin Remix Redux. AMIRITE??

the meme where you post a line from your WIPs )

This next thing is based on my post about the possibility of Arthur coming back to fix the recession. What does it say about me that this is not the first time I wrote about the Obamas hanging out with Merlin 'n pals?
3 facts about Arthur and Barack )

I wanna do that meme where you guys tell me three things that you associate with me, and then I ramble about them in a separate post. Go!

I didn't mean to do a Susan fanmix, but songs kept reminding me of her, so here they are, along with my assorted babbles and drabbles. I know traditionally you make a front cover graphic and a back cover graphic, BUT I am lazy so I combined them into one. I also linked to Youtube videos that use the song where I can so you can listen to them beforehand.

On to the music.

1. Would the 'missing scene' meme work if I drabbled a missing scene from one of YOUR fics? Or if YOU drabbled a missing scene from one of mine? Or is that too much.

2. OMG 'HUSTLE', WAY TO GO HAVING A WHIMSICAL BOLLYWOOD SONG-AND-DANCE SCENE AND ANGEL COULBY IN ONE EPISODE. I'M STILL PICKING BITS OF BRAIN OFF THE COUCH FROM WHEN MY HEAD EXPLODED FROM WONDERFUL. OMG.

3. What is with this LJ apocalypse I've been hearing rumours about (again). Whatev. But, since I've been meaning to do this anyway, I started an insanejournal here as a form of alternate fic repository. I should def move the older ones, 'cos I don't have the files for those anymore.

4. The awesome [livejournal.com profile] lazaefair has organized the crack-addled mess that is me and Bedlam's pevencestuous grifters commentfic AU (...we haven't thought of a title, okay) into chronological order, and it can be found on [livejournal.com profile] themusingstream. *glomps her* (Do people still use 'glomp' anymore?) At this point we've had cameos from Ocean's 11, Numb3rs (just a teeny one), and Merlin. And Boondock Saints, though the McManus brothers haven't officially showed up. ...Shit, I misplaced my shame gland again.

5. More drabbles:
Merlin/Narnia. Merlin and the Pevensies in England. This is entirely tricksterquinn's fault. )
Boondock Saints. Someone's forgotten something. )

The following were originally posted here for the (still ongoing?) 'missing scene' meme, and have been spruced up for an actual post.

- from this room has many windows (Narnia, Susan/Peter/Edmund), for [livejournal.com profile] lettersandliars
a starched cotton dress and runs in her stockings )

- from A Guide to Modern Living (Gossip/Boondock Saints, Travis/Connor), for [livejournal.com profile] lux__aeterna
i'll pray for whoever i fucking want to )

- from The Left Hand of Heaven (Narnia, Edmund & Peter), for [livejournal.com profile] bedlamsbard
lucy grins at him with a rabbit in each hand )

- from Just Lie Back and Think of Camelot (Merlin, Arthur/Merlin), for half of [livejournal.com profile] mumblemutter
what does mugwort do anyway? )

This is how I got my name, but now I'm reading Psych fic and it's is giving me a nominal crisis. It's $15 for a rename token so FUCK THAT, and I don't want to go through the hassle of making a new account. I can just change my name without changing my account, I guess, but dammit, all these options just sound like giving in so I will do NONE OF THEM. I will stand my ground. TAKE THAT, PSYCH.

AND NOW... a drabble dump!

Narnia/HP. Post-TLB. Susan & Tom Riddle. )

Golden Age. Implied Susan/Lucy. Tumnus is smarmy and Edmund doesn't want to know. )

Post-TLB. Susan, traveling the world. )

Deleted scene from 'Crowning of a Heart'. Lucy chasing Peter through Cair Paravel's secret passageways. )

Deleted scenes from 'and sometimes you hear the silence speak':
Leaving Cair Paravel. Peter&Susan, and Edmund being a grinch. )
En route to Calormen - 2 drabbles )
Edmund&Susan shenanigans )
Edmund & Susan at the Tisroc's banquet. )

I've always wanted to do a fic commentary, and and sometimes you hear the silence speak is kind of perfect for it because the length and subject matter lets me talk about a lot of things e.g. stray plot bunnies, sekrit authorial confessions, a reinterpretation of the role of Judas, the names of winds and sandstorms, book recommendations, etc.

The fic is technically gen, but the commentary is kind of not. It's posted in two parts due to space constraints, because sometimes I just don't shut up.

I started this fic some time ago partly out of a fit of "OMG NARNIA DESTROYS MY SOUL WITH ITS DESPAAAAIR D-: i must write something happy before i STAB SOMEONE". So. This is not the Aslan's Country of Where No Carnation Fades or Hereafter.

The title is from Sufjan Stevens's song of the same name, which I can't not think of as a "Susan returns to Aslan's Country" song. Hear/download it here [lyrics]. OH SUFJAN STEVENS, WITH YOUR JESUS ANGST, AND YOUR CURMUDGEONLY SONGS OF GRACE. There's a part of me that wants Susan to just move on and forget this whole stupid Aslan business, but, there's also a part of me that wants Pevensie reunion cuddles at the end of all things. Forsooth these two fates of Susan tear me asunder.

Longest fic I have written ahoy! I have been writing this SINCE THE SUMMER, and it has been informed by a variety of things along the way, including but not limited to 1001 Arabian Nights, Philip Pullman, the big bang, the Eucharist, my sociology class, and my love-hate relationship with economics.

Thank you, Pen, for fielding the initial drabbles and doing thumbs-up. Thank you, Bedlam, for fielding the later drabbles and doing thumbs-up, and also for betareading.

HERE GOES. (Eeeeeee!)

and sometimes you hear the silence speak
Narnia. Edmund, Susan, Jadis. There are shades of Pevencest and Edmund/Jadis here and there, though it is 'technically gen'. PG13.
Edmund and Susan go to Calormen to collect magic. "We are doing this for Narnia, sister, and nothing else."
ETA: The DVD commentary for this fic is here. Some missing scenes are here.

In the language of the desert tribes, the word for ‘magic’ is the same word for ‘wind’. )

They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said--

1. If you've ever wondered where the drabbles are at for Arthur/Susan, Morgana/Edmund, Uther/Lucy, Susan/Morgana, Lucy/Merlin, and the Dragon/Aslan (and Pevencest is a given), maybe you should look here. Part of my and [livejournal.com profile] bedlamsbard's ongoing mission to have the Pevensies sleep with everyone ever.

2. I never posted actual links to the following, and they do go with the overall theme of this post, so what the hell. In terms of Stardust crossovers, this is the one with Last Battle revisionism, and this is the one with Ben Barnes/Ben Barnes Caspian/Dunstan.

3. Here is that meme where you pair up the characters of the adjacent icons on your icons page and write a drabble about it.

Virgil Malloy (of O11) & Donald Duck, Miraz & the Beatles )

It has been a sulky sort of evening, but when I put my iTunes on random, the first song it played was "Evacuating London" and I was like :-D. My computer totally did it on purpose to make me feel better, I know it.

I have been on an icon-collecting kick lately. I'm looking forward to the release of the Prince Caspian DVD mainly for all the iconpretty people will be making. Icons 2 and 6 from this post make me want to write fic. Y'know, 'cos with #6, Edmund falters or loses his metaphorical footing, and it's not that Lucy saves him, quite, 'cos Lucy knows when to let Edmund fight his own battles. And besides, Lucy has learned by now that you can't make people believe -- in god, in themselves, in love, whatever -- but she is There, and, as Johnny Maxwell, the titular character of the EXCELLENT TRILOGY YA'LL MUST READ, says, "You can get medals just for being there."

The fic for #2 is probably set in Italy, because there is actually a city in Italy called Narnia, and [livejournal.com profile] animus_wyrmis was like, "Do you think the Pevensies were ever like, 'Hey, our country and this place in Italy have the same name!'?" Susan would be like, "It's just a name, you know," and waxes boring about how it's actually called Narni now, and it hasn't been Narnia since the Roman empire. And I don't know if all the Pevensies go or just some. According to that fount of knowledge Wikipedia, Narni is "of strikingly medieval appearance, with stone buildings, and narrow cobblestone streets," which totally enables angsting about Narnia. Like, it has the largest Roman bridge ever built, but only half of the bridge is still standing. They stand on the edge of the broken bridge and look down at the water, and it's like that scene from PC. Insert here stuff about ruins and relics and the inexorable passage of time. The town is also home to Blessed Lucy of Narni, who died after 39 years of speaking to no one but her confessor. "That doesn't sound like Lucy at all," says Edmund, and Lucy laughs as she shoves him. So anyway, there is wine-drinking, frolicking on the hillsides, and Pevencest. Pastoral idyll and being in a place that time seems to have forgetten.

INTERNET, DO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THIS IS THE ONLY DECENT JOHNNY MAXWELL FIC IN EXISTENCE.

Edit: More from Just William, from when William asks the sketchy man if he lost his ears in the war: "I bin in the wor orl right. Stroike me pink, I bin in the wor and that's the truth. But I didn't get 'em cut orf in the wor. Well, I'll stop kiddin' yer. I'll tell yer strite. I never 'ad none. Nar!"

For dinner, I am going to have curry noodles leftover, and brownies, and I'm gonna curl up with some reading, and I'm going to sleep long and hard, 'cos I forgot I volunteered to help run something tomorrow. Uh.

And, because I can, a couple of songs I think you should listen to, with links to YouTube:
Tricky, "Evolution Revolution Love": trip hop, sounds like the revolution seeping into the soles of your feet from the sidewalk cracks
Gabriella Cilmi, "Sweet About Me": reggae-ish, laid-back and mischievous

DID YOU SAY MORE DRABBLES? No you didn't, but have another one anyway. It's spring cleaning 'round these here parts. This one I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] almostinstinct about a month or so ago when she was feeling a bit down, though I kind of suck at writing 'happy'. (Also, where is that Merlin/Narnia crossover, biatch?!)

Brighton
Narnia. Peter/Susan in England, years after PC, escaping to the seaside for a weekend. PGish.

What the shit is this? It's got something called The Royal Journals, which I'm having trouble not finding cute, but also King Peter's Inbox, which is... I don't even know. Pevensies&Co. write each other emails. I am not even going to capslock that. I will, however, capslock ARAVIS CHATBOT.

Maybe I'll just drabble-dump for a while, 'cos I've a number of them. And I did stay up all night last night comparing and contrasting anomie and alienation for ten pages (anomie/alienation theirloveissodisconnected) AND finishing my stats midterm. That means this afternoon I get to do whatever the hell I want.

So, this next one is from when Bedlam and I commentficced her (not-technically-)AU back and forth. It's a flashback to the Golden Age, so it works on its own. It does borrow her idea of Peter developing an immunity to Lucy's cordial.

Scrabble, HP fic, featuring Slytherins and a terrifyingly magical Scrabble game. Oldie but a goodie. Also I FUCKING LOVE SCRABBLE.

YOU GUYS. So, on the Lost section of the ABC website they have a thing called Sawyer's Nickname Generator. Yeah yeah, I know, I'm sure we all receive enough abuse IRL, why ask the internet for more. But anyway, it asked me a couple of questions about myself and concluded that Sawyer's nickname for me would be WILBUR. I am confused?

From the pages of my statistics notebook: a drabble. Check out the pairing, what a throwback.

After All
Narnia. Susan/Caspian, high R (FO' SHIZ), set during PC movieverse. It's about sex and things never happening the same way twice.

It's one thing to waste time doing something enjoyable and eventually realize you're fucked, but it's that much more frustrating when you're wasting time doing something distinctively UNenjoyable. Like being bewildered at your statistics homework and hoping that staring at it in horror will eventually make it comprehensible. So, ON TO MORE ENJOYABLE THINGS.

Seeing as I have no time to do a cumulative recs post, let's try one rec per post, chipping away at it and such. And All Our Yesterdays is Peter/Susan in England, trying to keep it together and falling apart, as a Peter/Susan in England is wont to do.

I am planning to do a couple of drabble-dumps at some point, but I think this one is long enough to merit its own post.
